Day #1 of "Retirement"

Well, for the last 10 years, I have taught school. Today was the first day of my "retirement." I put that in quotes because I do not feel retired, nor am I probably retired from teaching for good. I am taking next year off as a leave of absence from teaching at Brookwood Forest to take care of our baby. After that, we will see what God has in store for us. I have been teaching for ten years, but for the last eight years, I have been teaching fifth grade writing at Brookwood Forest Elementary School. My journey there has been a wonderful one filled with wonderful students, supportive parents, and a faculty that has been part of my Birmingham family. I have enjoyed today being off of my swollen feet, but I know that I will miss teaching...even the last two weeks of school.

It is also very hard to let go of a classroom and of a school that you have been a part of for such a long time. I am thankful for my fifth grade team and now Bev...my angelic friend, who has taken the challenge of teaching my little ones for the last few weeks of the school year. Thank you all for letting me rest these last few weeks/days/hours (or whenever this little one decides to come). Recently, my sweet school friends hosted a baby shower for me at another dear friend's house. I'll try to add some pictures soon from this fun event! Thanks to all who came and gave gifts to our upcoming addition.

Some other sweet friends had a diaper and wipes shower for us in April. We are so thankful for all of the fun "necessities" that we got at that shower. Thanks to all who came and added to the practical side of babyland.
